A 16-year-old has been found guilty of attempted murder after a boy was found partially hidden under a bush with serious injuries.
The victim, 16, was found in the grounds of William Stukeley Church of England Primary School, Holbeach on Sunday, July 28, 2024, reports LincolnshireLive.
On Tuesday, January 20, Lincoln Crown Court heard that the boys had been drinking heavily that evening while socialising together. The victim passed out and the defendant had left the boy to walk another friend home.
On the return to take the victim home, the teenager called another friend. It was claimed in court that the call took a shocking turn, and the defendant repeatedly said he was planning to kill the unconscious teen.
The friend on the other end of the call was incredibly concerned over the defendant’s attitude and called the police with a description of events and approximate location of the unconscious victim. Lincolnshire Police attended the scene and located the victim.
The boy had lacerations to his neck and abdomen, inflicted by the defendant using a broken bottle. He had also suffered a haemorrhage in the left eye and fractured eye socket.
First aid was administered at the scene and paramedics arrived shortly after. Officers arrested the suspect at his home address in connection with what was believed to have been an attempted murder. The defendant stated that he had no idea what had happened, claiming that he was extremely confused.
Jurors found the defendant guilty and he will return to Lincoln Crown Court on Monday, March 3 for sentencing. Judge Simon Hirst confirmed that “The sentence is one of custody. The only issue is length.”
