Trace Cyrus, the son of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, has issued an emotional plea to his father following what people are calling a “trainwreck” of a performance at Donald Trump’s second inauguration earlier this week.
The singer’s performance didn’t go as well as he intended with such a large audience watching. He was met with a plague of technical difficulties, which left him to perform his song Old Town Road without the proper equipment. In order to combat the issues, the star chose to sing acapella, but could be heard asking the crew if his guitar was working.
Growing frustrated with the mounting problems, he told the audience: “Y’all want me to sing more or you just want me to get the hell off the stage? I don’t give a damn.” Viewers expressed that the performance was “embarrassing” and a “trainwreck”. Despite this, the singer said he “wouldn’t have missed the honour” of playing for the current president, reports the Mirror.
Since the incident, his son Trace has claimed that he “barely recognises” his dad and shared a photo of him joining Billy on stage when he was younger. Billy adopted Trace when he was four-years-old, as he is the son of ex-wife Tish Cyrus and Bexter Neal Helson.
In an emotional plea, his son wrote: “Since my earliest memories all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever. I wanted to be just like you. The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life.
“Sadly the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognise now. It seems this world has beaten you down and it’s become obvious to everyone but you. You may be upset with me for posting this but I really could care less at this point.”
He added: “Me and the girls have been genuinely worried about you for years but you’ve pushed all of us away. Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life and you haven’t even been there for her. That’s your baby girl. She deserves better. Somehow just like me she still idolises you though.”
Billy married Tish in 1993 and soon adopted her two children Trace and Brandi. The couple then had Miley, Braison and Noah, and Billy is also a father to son Christopher from a previous relationship. It has been reported that Noah has stuck by her dad’s side amid his divorce from her mum.
However, the same cannot be said about Miley, as their father-daughter relationship went downhill after the split. The relationship frayed more when Billy married Australian singer Firerose, who is 25 years younger than him. The two of them split, however, seven months later amid an audio leak of Billy saying Miley was a “devil” and a “skank”.
In November, it was reported that Miley and Billy’s relationship was severed and that she intended to never speak to him ever again. Trump has been seen to take Billy’s side in the matter, as last summer he shaded Miley at a rally that Billy attended.
He said: “Billy Ray Cyrus is here. Where is Billy Ray? He’s around here someplace, and he’s great. He’s a conservative guy. I said, ‘How did you get such a liberal daughter? How had that happened, Billy Ray?'”
