A drug dealer caught after threatening an East Kilbride bar worker has been jailed for 28 months.

Police seized cocaine, ecstasy and street valium from Nicki Morgan who also had £1,700 in cash.

Morgan, 32, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court after admitting threatening or abusive behaviour at Harvester in Eaglesham Road on May 24 last year.

He also admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs and having two knives in public without reasonable excuse.

Rebecca Clark, prosecuting, said Morgan became aggressive towards a member of staff after ordering a drink shortly before midnight.

She told the court: “He stated ‘I’m going to slit your throat’.

“The police were contacted and officers found him in a taxi. He was searched and was in possession of £1,700 and four bags of cocaine worth around £2,000.

“Police also seized a set of scales, four phones, 1,044 etizolam tablets worth £600 and 45 ecstasy tablets with a value of £470.

“While being detained, Morgan was aggressive towards police officers who also recovered two knives.”

The court heard Morgan’s drugs consumption at that time had led to him leaving the home he shared with his partner and child.

Defence lawyer Andy Iles said: “He was in a very poor place – homeless and in the grip of an addiction.

“He’s been in custody since and there’s a degree of optimism about the future.”

Sheriff Louise Gallacher told Morgan: “It’s pleasing to see you have made some progress while in prison and you appear to have a desire to change. But given your record and the serious nature of these charges there is no alternative to custody.”

The sentence was backdated to 27 May and Morgan will be under supervision for nine months when he’s freed.
