Universities and colleges across Dumfries and Galloway will be closed on Friday due to Storm Eowyn.
The Met Office has issued a “danger to life” warning due to the potential for flying debris, with the possibility of 100mph winds leading to amber and red weather warnings being issued.
Dumfries and Galloway Council has already announced the closure of all schools and now higher education establishments are following suit.
The University of Glasgow, the University of the West of Scotland, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and Dumfries and Galloway College have all announced they will be shut.

The majority have a campus at the Crichton in Dumfries, which is itself urging people to stay away from the popular site.
With the Easterbrook Hall and Crichton Central shut, it warned: “We strongly advise those who usually use The Crichton grounds for walks to stay away from the estate tomorrow due to the high risk of flying debris from wind damage to trees and buildings and the risk of being blown over by high wind gusts. Please stay safe and take extra care until Storm Éowyn passes tomorrow evening.”
Dumfries and Galloway College has closed its Dumfries and Stranraer campuses, with SRUC closing its Barony base at Parkgate.
The University of Glasgow is closing all its sites, including the one in Dumfries, with the University of the West of Scotland closing its four Scottish campuses – which includes the site at the Crichton.
