HINTON, W.Va. -Now to Summers County where the City of Hinton is preparing a new tool with the hopes that it benefits the citizens in town.

On February 1st, the city will be launching text MyGov, a smart text messaging service.

The new text messaging system provides a platform for residents to receive notifications on things like events, service outages, road work, weather alerts, among others.

It also gives residents the ability to ask for specific information.

Hinton’s City Manager tells us that simply by texting 91896 you can get signed up to receive texts the city sends out about issues that residents need to know.

“Everybody seems to have texting, so this is an opportunity for them to get text alerts from us and for them to send information in to us as well. They will be able to text us a picture of a pothole. There will be the opportunity for them to text if there is a water leak that they notice, even crime tips”
