GRAND BLANC, Mich. (WNEM/Gray News) – A puppy is recovering after police say he was abandoned and spent days inside a porta-potty at a Michigan park.

Police say a puppy, who is being called Hank, was abandoned for more than two days inside a portable toilet at Creasy Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc. Police started an investigation after receiving reports from the township’s Parks and Recreation team, according to WNEM.

Chief of Police William Reyne says Hank was found by a good Samaritan, an employee of one of the companies that services the porta-potty.

“Hank was freezing, freezing cold. Feces, dog feces spread throughout the porta-potty and pet urine. There was no water for Hank, just a small bowl of food,” Reyne said.

A 25-year-old woman was arrested for the incident and is facing charges. According to police, she said her landlord wouldn’t accept a pit bull breed. She didn’t know what to do with Hank, so she allegedly left him inside the porta-potty.

Police are reminding pet owners to be responsible.

“Remember: you chose the animal. The animal did not choose you. We will be the voice for animals that go through animal cruelty,” Reyne said.

Reyne says Hank is still being cared for by the man who found him.

The police department says it is also grateful to Grand Blanc Veterinary Hospital for providing the first year of shots for Hank, along with PetSmart and Pets Supplies Plus of Grand Blanc for providing puppy food.

During the cold weather over the next few days, police ask you to bring your animals inside or provide a warm shelter. Police say it is a felony if you leave pets outside and they die due to the cold weather.
