Scotland’s “top restaurants for 2025″ have been named on a prestigious new foodie list.

All over Scotland, there is a seemingly endless list of world-class eateries serving up everything from no-frills pub grub to fancy fine-dining. The Daily Record recently revealed our own top picks for restaurants across the country in 2025.

On Wednesday, restaurant and venues guide SquareMeal unveiled its annual list of the top eateries in the UK. A total of 10 Scottish restaurants are included on the food experts’ roundup for the year ahead.

Edinburgh came out on top for Scotland, with four restaurants appearing on SquareMeal’s guide. LYLA, The Little Chartroom, Montrose, and Fhior all earned a spot on the prestigious list.

LYLA is an upmarket seafood restaurant that offers up a ten-course tasting menu. The experts at SquareMeal singled it out as “one of the city’s finest seafood experiences”.

The Little Chartroom also earned acclaim, with SquareMeal going so far as to call it a “nigh on perfect neighbourhood”. The small and charming restaurant, which is situated in Edinburgh‘s buzzy Leith district, specialises in wine and a small menu of high-end dishes.

Meanwhile, Montrose is a 19th century former inn that has been converted into a wine bar and restaurant. It was singled out for “offering two distinct dining experiences under one roof,” with both relaxed dining and fancy full set-menu experiences on offer.

The final Edinburgh destination to be included on the experts’ list, Fhior, is an understated restaurant that presents innovative seasonal cuisine with a focus on tasting menus. SquareMeal lavished praise upon its “elegance and intrigue”, as well as its “refreshingly relaxed” atmosphere.

Two Glasgow restaurants are included on SquareMeal’s guide: Big Counter and Cail Bruich. The former was praised for its “unfussy comfort food and old-school favourites”, while Cail Bruich was called a “special occasion spot worth saving up for”.

Elsewhere, other restaurants to be included on the roundup are the two Michelin-starred Glenturret Lalique Restaurant in Crieff and restaurant and fishmongers Fish Shop Ballater. Particular praise was given to the Glenturret Lalique Restaurant’s “out of this world” menu and Fish Shop Ballater’s “commitment to community, simplicity and sustainability”.

Rounding out the Scottish inclusions on SquareMeal’s 2025 guide are 17th-century pub and restaurant The Kinneuchar Inn in Fife and former crofter’s cottage Inver in Argyll and Bute. The experts applauded The Kinneuchar Inn’s “affordable yet elevated a la carte menu”, and praised Inver for “blending ultra-fresh local produce – sometimes straight out of the loch – with clever Nordic technique”.
