West Dunbartonshire’s bin collections have been suspended, all libraries and leisure facilities will be closed on Friday as Storm Eowyn batters Scotland.
West Dunbartonshire Council this afternoon (Thursday) confirmed it had made the moves to safeguard the safety of staff and customers after the Met Office issued a red weather warning for “very high winds” from 10am until 5pm with forecasters warning the storm could bring a “threat to life”.
The council previously announced that all schools and nurseries would remain closed on Friday.
The waste collections have been suspended on Friday and residents are being urged not to present their bins for collection during the high winds.
The council’s recycling centres at both Dalmoak and Erskine Ferry Road will also be closed.

All libraries will be closed, and in addition, facilities run by West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust – including leisure centres, community facilities and pitches – will also stay shut. Day services run at Queens Quay and Crosslet House will not go ahead.
Registration services will also be closed, along with the council offices at Church Street, Dumbarton.
A Met Office forecaster said: “Southwesterly then westerly winds will rapidly increase from west to east Friday mid-morning onwards into the afternoon, with peak gusts of 80-90mph fairly widely and perhaps up to 100mph along exposed western coasts.
”This brings the risk of significant disruption to transport and power supplies as well as dangerous conditions outdoors. Winds will gradually ease through Friday evening.”
