At the beginning of a new year, many of us are looking for a fresh start. One way to achieve this is gutting out your wardrobe and getting rid of the clothes that you just don’t wear anymore. Some people pass their clothes on to friends and family, some give them away to charity shops, while some want to earn a bit of money back for the clothes they bought.
Vinted is an online marketplace where you can sell your preloved items to a better home, and others can snap up some good deals on clothes they may have missed at the shops. The app is normally fairly easy to use to make your shopping experience enjoyable – but some sellers may be making errors that mean their items aren’t shifting.
One woman has taken to Mumsnet to share what she believes are the two most common mistakes people are making on the app, saying she would “scroll past your Vinted listing if you’ve done this”, reports the Mirror.
Her first issue was: “A close-up of the label or a hint of fabric is used as the main picture, like a teaser, instead of a nice clear photo of the whole garment.” She admitted that she “can’t be bothered to click on it” to just find out it is something she “wouldn’t have clicked on if you’d just shown the whole thing in the first place”.
Her other gripe was: “Only posting one picture or two really bad pictures. Just don’t bother.” Some people agreed with her views, even if they were a tad harsh. However, others had different opinions on what works and doesn’t work on the app.
In the comments, one person took the complete opposite view saying that these issues could actually work in your favour. They wrote: “Sometimes you can get bargains because everyone else has scrolled past them for this reason.”
Despite this optimism, some did follow the former person’s line of thinking, complaining: “Some people haven’t got any common sense and don’t think that a poor photo will put people off. It happens with jewellery on eBay as well – fuzzy photos of diamond rings.”
Other pet peeves also started cropping up in the comments, with one person fuming: “People who don’t know the difference between leather and plastic.” Along the same lines, another person exclaimed: “No I don’t believe you if you say it is silk from Primark!”
One very specific grievance was expressed by another Mumsnet member, ranting: “When people say it’s brand new, or brand new with tags, and then post a picture of them modelling it.”
Other issues included listing as new without the tags, phrases like ‘worn once’ or ‘a bit of bobbling but can hardly tell’, a picture of the seller wearing it, or the product not being presented well – either “screwed up” on a hanger or “arranged” on the floor or bed.
One Vinted shopper also mentioned being horrified by one post that said “Only selling because I’ve lost weight and it’s too big”. She sarcastically replied: “Oh thanks love, some of us are still that size!”
