AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things happening in the Austin area! From Lynch to “Lord of the Rings,” there’s no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.
Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend this weekend.
Remember David Lynch with a screening
Legendary filmmaker David Lynch died last week, leaving many movie fans heartbroken. The writer and director was known for his dark and dreamlike visions, including films like “Blue Velvet” and the TV show “Twin Peaks.”
This weekend, the Austin Film Society will celebrate Lynch’s impact with screenings of three of his films: “Mulholland Drive,” “Eraserhead” and “Lost Highway.” While several of the screenings are already sold out, some still have tickets available as of Thursday afternoon.
When: Remaining “Mulholland Drive” screening: Friday at 4:15 p.m.; Remaining “Eraserhead” screenings: Friday at 7:35 p.m. and 9:50 p.m., Saturday at 9:50 p.m. and Sunday at 7:45 p.m.; Remaining “Lost Highway” screening: Sunday at 6:45 p.m.

Snag something unique from a small business
This weekend, there are a few unique opportunities to shop for something one-of-a-kind.
First, the South Congress SwapMeet will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 305 S. Congress Ave. The event will feature 200 vendors selling jewelry, vintage clothing and home and artisan goods.
Le Garage Sale – a twice-yearly shopping event featuring more than 140 local, independent retailers and designers – also returns to the Palmer Events Center, located at 900 Barton Springs Rd. Shoppers can stop by between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, with VIP Pre-shop available from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday.
Celebrate Lord of the Rings Day
Fantasy fans, rejoice! This Sunday, BookPeople will celebrate “The Lord of the Rings Day” with a day jam-packed with themed activities.
There’s an all-day scavenger hunt for Leaves of Lórien throughout the store, “Lord of the Rings” trivia for prizes, a “Lord of the Rings” Dungeons & Dragons campaign (tickets sold out) and a pop-up from Bom Bakeshop, as BookPeople turns its coffee shop into The Green Dragon with themed mochi donuts like the “Eye of Sauron,” “Mithril” and “Galadriel’s Gifts.”
