Asda has announced that over 60 Scots stores across the country will remain closed due to adverse weather caused by Storm Éowyn.
It comes after the Met Office issued rare red weather warnings for parts of the country today, Friday, January 24. The warning is set to take effect from 10am and will remain in place until 5pm.
With disruptive weather caused by high winds and heavy rain, the supermarket has confirmed that Scottish branches in the worst hit regions have remained closed since 6am this morning. It said the safety of its customers and colleagues was “paramount.”
It further added that stores will remain only reopen once it has been deemed safe to do so. All click and collect orders scheduled for today have also been cancelled and customers will be informed directly once this changes.
Speaking of its decision to close its stores, Asda said: “We thank all our customers and colleagues for their understanding and advise everyone to follow Met Office guidance for their area.”
It’s just the latest round of closures to be announced due to Storm Éowyn. Fellow supermarket Tesco has also confirmed that it will be keeping its Scots stores closed following the red weather warnings in place for today.
Several local authorities are also keeping their doors closed, with schools up and down the country also affected. Scots are also being urged not to travel, with many operators not in service today due to the weather conditions.
