A building attached to a Co-op store in Denny has collapsed as Storm Éowyn continues to batter the country.

The Co-op Food in Denny, Falkirk, was badly damaged by high winds that left part of the inside of the building exposed.

An image shared on social media shows the gaping hole in the upper level of the premises on Stirling Street, with bricks and wood having fallen to the ground.

Police Scotland are in attendance, but no injuries have been reported. Falkirk Council has since urged the public to avoid the area, with engineers expected to secure the site.

Storm Éowyn continues to wreak havoc across Scotland, with the red weather warning extended on Friday morning to cover more areas, and is due to last until 5pm.

A danger to life warning has also been issued by the Met Office due to flying debris from buildings. A man has since tragically died after reportedly being hit by falling roof tiles in Irvine, North Ayrshire.

The supermarket, adjacent to Denny Cross, appeared to have its shutters down after the weather forced many companies to close their doors.

Damage caused by the gale-force winds has destroyed part of the structure, with most of the brickwork gone and wooden panels badly damaged.

The end of its roof is completely gone, leaving half of the building exposed. A large pile of bricks, wood and debris lies underneath, with the wind already blowing pieces of rubble into the main road. What appears to be a glass shelter for trolleys has also been partially damaged by the impact.
