A football fan collapsed and died ahead of the Europa League clash between Rangers and Man Utd.

The supporter sadly died at the Old Trafford before the 2-1 defeat to Rangers on Thursday night. It is understood that the elderly fan died after a medical incident.

It is currently unclear if they were supporting Manchester United or Rangers. Greater Manchester Police confirmed there was no criminality surrounding the incident.

Around 3,000 Ranges fans travelled south of the border to attend the game on Thursday. Violence broke out in the stadium during the fixture, with Rangers fans caught up in brawls with Man United supporters.

Alarming footage emerged showing a number of fights inside Old Trafford after Gers fans bought tickets in the home end. Manchester United said the club took ‘strict measures’ to prevent away fans from buying tickets for the home end and vowed to take strong sanction against anyone who they can prove sold their ticket on.

One video shows fans accosting a man in a black jacket and throwing punches in his direction. He turns around to remonstrate but the blows continue to rain down as he is chased down stairs. Another video shows fighting erupt in the middle of a row as punches are wildly thrown towards one supporter.

Police confirmed that there were 39 arrests made during the game. The Record has approached Manchester United Football Club, Rangers Football Club and the North West Ambulance Service for comment.
