Morton appear to be one of the first SPFL clubs to have serious damage caused by Storm Éowyn.
An image has emerged online shared by popular fan account Pie and Bovril showing the ‘Cowshed’ stand with considerable damage. The picture shows large chunks of the roofing over the area of the ground completely torn off in the horrendous conditions as the country continues to be battered during the rare red weather warning.
More than 35,000 homes in Scotland have been left without power and considerable damage expected across the country. The football card is due to take place tomorrow once the worst of the weather passes – but a lot could come down to the lasting effects of Storm Éowyn in the next couple of hours with the worst of the warning until 5pm.
Morton themselves are due to travel to Queen’s Park at Hampden on Saturday in the Scottish Championship. As thing stand that game goes ahead but Arbroath and Kelty Hearts WON’T go ahead tomorrow evening due to stadium damage. A club statement reads: “Arbroath FC’s William Hill League One fixture against Kelty Hearts schedule for 5.30pm tomorrow has been postponed.
“Following safety concerns due to considerable damage to the Main Stand Roof following Storm Eowyn a meeting held between Arbroath FC, the SPFL and Police Scotland, it has been decided that due to the risk and the safety of supporters and players, the game will be postponed.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and we thank supporters for their understanding, Whilst we appreciate this will be disappointing for our fans, the safety of all Arbroath and Kelty supporters, staff and players is of paramount importance. Information for the rearranged fixture will be posted when confirmed.”
Celtic have been out on the training ground this morning braving the elements as Brendan Rodgers and his troops prepare for Dundee. They grabbed a last gasp winner to book a Champions League play-off spot midweek but it is back to domestic matters. However, they will be without star man Kyogo who should complete a move to Rennes in the next 24 hours.
