Plans to transform an office building in Paisley town centre into a 16-unit aparthotel have been submitted to Renfrewshire Council for consideration.
Dunfermline-based company Chapel Street has presented an application for planning permission for the upper floors of the site in Glasgow Road.
If given the green light, the development will involve internal alterations to create self-contained accommodation units, each consisting of a living and sleeping area, kitchenette and en-suite bathroom.
A design and access statement explained: “An aparthotel combines the services of a traditional hotel with the self-contained living space of an apartment.
“Units typically offer a kitchenette or full kitchen, allowing guests to prepare meals if desired, while still benefiting from hotel amenities such as reception and housekeeping.”
The applicant believes the proposal aligns with the local authority’s planning objectives, promoting sustainable development, economic growth and placemaking within the town centre.
“The design will respect the character of the surrounding area while introducing a contemporary addition to the streetscape,” the statement said.
“The aparthotel will provide high-quality accommodation for visitors, enhancing the town’s appeal as a destination. The development will contribute to the creation of a vibrant and attractive town centre environment.”
The office block is situated above Dessert Rush and Pizza Hut – a few minutes’ walk from St Mirin’s Cathedral in Incle Street.
The statement concluded: “The proposed conversion of 6 Glasgow Road to an aparthotel represents a sustainable and economically beneficial development that will enhance the vitality of Paisley town centre.”
A decision will be made on the application at a later date.
