Helensburgh is just one location to have bore the brunt of Storm Eowyn today – with video footage showing the force of the driving winds washing the waterfront on to the road there.
In footage captured early on Friday morning, the waterfront can be seen with water ingress on to East Clyde Street. The video shows large waves crashing over the top of the wal there, just a short distance from Helensburgh Pier.
The blustery conditions, with winds up to 100mph, saw the water spray across the street there as much of East Clyde Street was either flooded or had debris swept across it.
There have bee reports of parts of the town seeing fallen trees, damaged roofs, debris – including sheds and trampolines – on Helensburgh’s waterfront.
The storm has brought blackouts to multiple places across the country, with Dumfries and Galloway alone seeing more than 11,000 homes without power.
The rare red weather warning was issued along with a “threat to life” message with the warning in place until 5pm on Friday.
