Steven Gerrard has shared another thrilling family update, revealing that his son Lio is participating in his first football tournament – just weeks after his daughter announced her pregnancy.
The former Liverpool captain and Rangers boss keeps his social media followers updated on both his personal and professional life. In his latest post, Gerrard reposted a photo from his wife Alex’s Instagram story of their son Lio heading off to his first football competition.
The image was captioned, “off on his first footy tournament,” along with a football and plane emoji, reports the Mirror.
In 2017, Gerrard shared the news of Lio’s birth, saying, “Lio George Gerrard was born this morning at 4.55am. Both are doing great. Our family is complete.”

Last year, a video of 7-year-old Lio showing off his football skills went viral, suggesting he might be following in his dad’s footsteps. This is just one of the recent updates the Gerrard family have shared.
At the start of the month, Steven responded to his daughter Lilly-Ella’s announcement that she is expecting her first child with her boyfriend Lee Byrne, the son of a convicted gangster.
The 20-year-old shared on Instagram: “Our little secret. The best news, mini us is on the way.”
Gerrard expressed his excitement about becoming a grandfather later this year when he turns 45. He commented: “We can’t wait. Great news and congratulations. We love you.”
Lilly-Ella has been in a relationship with her boyfriend Lee since October 2022, and he has described her as “the best person” he’s “ever met”.
Lee is the son of notorious Dubliner Liam Byrne, who was arrested in Spain in 2023 and sentenced to five years in prison in October 2024 for weapons charges.
Lilly-Ella is Gerrard’s eldest child, and he and wife Alex, are also parents to three other children: Lexie, 18, Lourdes, 13 and Lio.
The couple recently made a big move with Gerrard taking over as manager of Saudi Arabian football club Al Ettifaq, but instead of settling in Saudi Arabia, the family chose to live in Bahrain.
The Liverpool legend is facing significant pressure at the helm of the Saudi club following a tough start to the season and Gerrard will be hoping to get his professional life back on course before the arrival of his new grandchild.

Al-Ettifaq currently sit 11th in the standings, having won five of their first 16 league games this season. The club has multiple changes over the past few months, with Dean Holden and Mark Allen being let go, and Michael Beale brought in as Gerrard’s assistant.
Regarding those decisions, Gerrard said: “The club made decisions regarding the departure of Mark Allen and Dean Holden. The decision was also made to bring Michael Beale in who is a super coach, we spent years together previously and it’s great to have him back with me. Now we need some time to develop and improve.”
