All leisure centres, libraries, community centres, museums and arts venues across North Lanarkshire are closed today due to the impact of Storm Éowyn – with bin collections also shelved.
As the area is currently being battered by winds of up to 80mph following the issuing of a rare Red weather warning from the Met Office, North Lanarkshire Council will “continue to deliver critical services but there will be extensive disruption to non-critical services”.
Bin collections for today have been suspended and recycling centres are shut.
People are advised that if their general waste bin (black) was scheduled for collection today, to place it on the kerbside tomorrow, Saturday, and council staff “will aim to collect it as soon as possible”.
Home support will continue to be delivered today “where possible” to the most vulnerable people but there may be changes to arrangements.
The local authority will be in direct contact with families if there are changes to the service.
A council spokesperson said: “Police Scotland has issued advice to avoid travel in areas affected by the red weather warning.
“The council will continue to deliver critical services over this period but there will be extensive disruption to non-critical services.
“We classify critical services as those which protect human life and maximise the safety of people.
“All council offices are closed to the public.”
