Thousands of homes across Lanarkshire are without power as Storm Eowyn wreaks havoc across the region.
And homeowners could face a lengthy wait till as late as Saturday morning until their electricity is restored.
A Met Office red weather warning for gusts of wind of up to 100mph is now in force for the west part of the region, with the rest covered by an amber warning.
The Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) website shows large parts of East Kilbride, Thorntonhall, Bothwell, Larkhall, Motherwell and Biggar have all been affected.
Although some problems in Motherwell have now been resolved.
Advice on the SPEN website reads: “Should you experience power cuts unexpectedly, please use SP Energy Networks’ postcode lookup or call our emergency numbers. We’ll be able to give you our best estimate of how long it will be before we can restore your power.
“If there are cables on or near the ground, please keep clear of them. If they are in roads or on footpaths, dial 999. Please call us urgently if you see any damaged equipment, lines or substations and we’ll make the equipment safe.”
The red weather warning is due to last until 5pm tonight, with the amber warning expiring at 9pm.
