Thousands of homes across Dumfries and Galloway are without power as Storm Eowyn wreaks havoc across the region.

And it could be Friday evening or even Saturday morning until power is restored.

A Met Office red weather warning for gusts of wind of up to 100mph is now in force for the west part of the region, with the rest covered by an amber warning.

The Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) website shows large parts of Dumfries, Lockerbie, Lochmaben, Newton Stewart and Stranraer have all been affected.

In the Stewartry, outages have also been reported in the Glenkens, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbright and Gatehouse – although some problems have now been resolved.

However, other residents are not gone to be so lucky.

SPEN is warning it will be late Friday evening before power is back on.

And in parts of Dumfries it could be 9am before power is restored.

The red weather warning is due to last until 5pm tonight, with the amber warning expiring at 9pm.
