The magic of live theatre was on full display this past week at Glasgow’s Kings Theatre as 10-year-old Ayrshire starlet Niamh Lee took centre stage in the lead role of Annie.
The production, presented by the renowned Pantheon Theatre Company, drew nearly 15,000 excited audience members, with Niamh’s stellar performance earning raucous standing ovations at every show.
Niamh, from Kilmarnock, landed the lead role of Annie last summer, after successfully coming through a multiple-stage audition process which included singing, dancing and acting.

Almost 400 youngsters auditioned for the production and Niamh, aged just 9 at the time of auditions, was cast as one of two Annie’s who lead the run from January 14 until January 18.
Niamh’s portrayal of the charismatic orphan Annie has been met with widespread acclaim, marking her as a standout young talent in the world of amateur theatre.
From her impeccable American accent to her emotive acting and soaring vocals, every aspect of her performance was celebrated by audiences and critics alike.
The chemistry between Niamh and her on-stage counterpart, Mr Warbucks, played by the highly experienced David Robertson, added an emotional depth to the production that left many in tears.
Supported by a vibrant ensemble of 20 orphans and a talented full adult cast, Niamh’s energy and professionalism brought the beloved story to life with a polish well beyond her years.
Over 300 friends, family members, neighbours, teachers, and classmates from Kilmarnock and beyond turned out to see Niamh shine on stage.
The Lee family described the overwhelming support as “deeply humbling”.
Niamh’s father Barry said: “Firstly, we’d like to say a huge thank you to The Pantheon Club for affording Niamh this massive opportunity.
“The cast, direction, and care provided throughout the process were incredible. The support from friends, family, and the wider community has been overwhelming.

“Seeing Niamh emerge each night to cheers, applause, and with such a great smile on her face will be memories we all treasure forever.”
Among those cheering her on were members of Take A Bow, Niamh’s local theatre group in Kilmarnock, which has nurtured her talent from a young age. Her dance teachers from Janice Marshall Stage School alongside friends and classmates at her school also joined the crowd, beaming with pride at her remarkable achievement.
The enthusiasm for Niamh’s performance has extended beyond the theatre walls. The Lee family has been inundated with messages and online comments celebrating her star turn, with many noting her performance as “on par with West End and Broadway productions.”
Niamh’s talent has not gone unnoticed by industry professionals either. Several talent agents have approached her family with interest in representing Niamh.
Barry said: “We’ve been blown away by the interest in Niamh’s performance.
“It’s amazing to see her talent being recognised. This whole experience has been so special for her and for all of us as a family.”
For Niamh, the journey to playing Annie has been a “dream come true”.
This was her third appearance at the Kings Theatre in just over a year, following roles in sold-out productions of Oliver! and Elf the Musical.
Reuniting with friends from those productions, while forging new friendships among the Annie cast, has made this experience particularly memorable for the young star.

Barry shared: “She’s had the time of her life.
“The team at Pantheon have been amazing, from the director to her wonderful chaperone Marina who treated her like family throughout the process. Niamh has learned so much and grown as a performer and a person during this production.”
Although the curtain has closed on Annie, the talented schoolgirl is already working on her next stage project, set to debut later in 2025.
Reflecting on the whirlwind experience, Barry added: “This role has been life-changing for Niamh. The smile on her face after each show, seeing the support from so many people, is something we’ll always treasure. We can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next.”
