Harlan Coben‘s next Netflix project has been announced as his novel Run Away.

Filming will kick off later this month and James Nesbitt, who starred in the recent hit Missing You, will play main character Simon, a man whose lovely life starts to go down hill when his daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange) runs away.

Speaking to Tudum for Netflix, Coben said: “Run Away is about family — about what we will do to keep our family intact, what secrets we keep within our family, and what secrets we keep as a family.

“Every time you walk past the house, there’s a whole universe that goes on behind that door and none of us have a clue what it is.”

The book came out in 2019 but will now be transformed into an eight-part thriller.

In true Harlan Coben style, the series will uncover those secrets, as Simon realises he has a chance to save Paige. However, his quest to find his daughter will ‘unearth untold violence that threatens to “blow up” his family for good’, Coben says.

Nesbitt will be joined by co-stars Ruth Jones, Minnie Driver, Alfred Enoch, Lucian Msamati, and more in the star-studded line-up.

Filming will begin at the end of January around Manchester and the northwest of England. Coben says he loves filming in these locations and he’s become rather familiar with them.

He said: “When you do as many shows as we’ve done there, you really get the charm. What’s wonderful about the north of England is there’s such variety. There’s a combination of everyday and eccentric about the settings there.”

Not only does he write the novels, Coben is also an executive producer through his company, Final Twist Productions.

Fool Me Once’s Danny Brocklehurst is the lead writer and is also an executive producer alongside Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee. Guy Hescott and Will McDonagh are producers. Run Away is produced by Quay Street Productions.

Following the cast announcement for Run Away, Danny said: “It’s an enormous pleasure to be reteaming with Netflix, Harlan and the amazing Quay Street Productions team to produce another twisty thriller. Fool Me Once’s phenomenal success has set a high bar but with Run Away’s emotionally universal storyline and great cast, hopefully we can give audiences another fantastic ride”.
