Fort Cavazos and Fort Bliss, located near El Paso, are at least two of the bases in Texas that have been activated to bolster border security.

AUSTIN, Texas — Fort Cavazos is among a number of U.S. military bases that will be deploying troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The deployment comes as 1,500 active duty troops stationed all across the country are being sent to the border as part of President Trump’s border security directives.

Deputy Public Affairs Officer, LTC Matt McMillan confirmed that Fort Cavazos will be among the bases sending troops, providing the following statement:

The Headquarters, 89th Military Police Brigade; Headquarters, 720th Military Police Battalion; and 401st Military Police Company, all from Fort Cavazos, Texas, have deployed an immediate augmentation of military active-duty forces to the Southern Border to carry out directed missions called for by the President to secure the Southern Border and protect and defend the territorial integrity of the United States. The units will operate under the direction of U.S. Northern Command and Joint Task Force North.

The 1,500 being deployed join 2,500 service members who are already assisting Customs and Border Protection.

At the moment, it is unclear where on the border the deployed troops will be sent.
