AUSTIN, Texas — The company that’s purchased Big Lots has put up for sale the leases of hundreds of locations, indicating those stores may close for good.
Big Lots, which filed for bankruptcy protection last year, announced in December that it would be sold to Gordon Brothers Retail Partners.
That company listed for sale nearly 500 leases across 47 states that were “primarily located in shopping centers,” according to a press release announcing the sale. The lease sale website noted all offers were due no later than Jan. 24.
In October, Big Lots announced it would close 50 locations, one of which was in Cedar Park. Now two other locations in the Austin area will take part in the going out of business sale. Those locations are:
- Big Lots – Southeast Austin
- 801 E William Cannon Drive
- Big Lots – Austin: Spicewood Springs
- 866 Spicewood Springs Road
- Big Lots – Cedar Park
- 850 N Bell Blvd Ste 104
The states with the most Big Lots locations up for sale on the list are Texas (72), New York (49) and Florida (44).
When the deal was first announced, Ohio-based Big Lots and Gordon Brothers Retail Partners said Variety Wholesalers Inc. planned to acquire between 200 and 400 of the remaining Big Lots stores and continue to operate them under the Big Lots brand.
According to its website, there are 901 Big Lots locations in the U.S.
