Some people aren’t taking the news as well as others.

DALLAS — After a week of anticipation and speculation, the Dallas Cowboys have officially announced Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach.

Schottenheimer, who has nearly 20 years of NFL experience as an offensive coordinator, spent the past two seasons in the same role under Mike McCarthy. His familiarity with the organization likely played a key role in owner Jerry Jones’s decision to promote him.

While Jones and the Cowboys front office celebrated the hire, the reaction on social media has been less enthusiastic. Cowboys fans and critics alike have taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their mixed opinions.

Here are some of the most direct and notable posts from the NFL community:

Even former Cowboys star Dez Bryant chimed in on the hire, criticizing the way the organization came to the decision and questioning Jones’ truthfulness when saying they were going “all in.”

As you can see, fans aren’t exactly welcoming the first-time head coach with open arms. But who knows, maybe he’s the next great head coach — or maybe he falls into the same path as those who came before him.

One thing is certain: it’s going to be a long offseason.
