WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) – An investigation is underway after a 28-year-old patient died hours after she was found unresponsive on the roof of a hospital in a Chicago suburb.

Chelsea Adolphus’ grieving family is demanding answers following her death. Hospital personnel found the 28-year-old woman Thursday morning on the roof of the Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, Illinois. She was unresponsive and moved to the emergency room, where she was pronounced dead about 14 hours later.

The 28-year-old’s mother, Yolanda Adolphus, describes her daughter as a sweet young woman who would do anything for someone in need.

“She was sweet. She was friendly. You could ask her for anything. She was a kind person,” the mother said. “I’m hurt. I’m sad. The way my daughter went. I want answers. I want them to give me answers to know what happened to my daughter.”

Chelsea Adolphus’ family says she was admitted to the hospital earlier in the week and was staying in a room. It is unclear to them and, apparently, to investigators how she managed to get on the roof and how long she was there in frigid temperatures.

Family and friends gathered at the family’s home just a few miles from the hospital Friday, offering support to each other.

“Somebody need to give me what happened to my baby, Chelsea, that is gone, and I will never get back my daughter,” Yolanda Adolphus said.

The hospital did not respond to a request for comment Friday.

Police are still investigating.
