(WFXT) – A Massachusetts home health aide is sharing her story after she says she was attacked by a client.

The home health aide, who asked that her identity be concealed, said she thought she was going to die while working a double shift at an apartment complex.

“I was screaming, ‘Help! Help!’” the victim said.

She said a man in his 70s, who she had been looking after for two years, turned on her in a sinister way after waking up in the middle of the night and asking her what time it was.

“He came back with the knife. He started to get me with the knife,” the victim said.

She said the man repeatedly stabbed, slashed and sliced her while she was sitting on a recliner. She said she was kicking and thrashing her body but her client refused to let her get up.

The victim, a mother and grandmother, said she gathered the strength to push the suspect as hard as she could. She jumped up and bolted out of the door as he chased her with a piece of wood.

“He’s not going to kill me. He’s not going to pull me down,” she said.

According to a police report, when a security guard intervened in the hallway, the suspect tried to hit him with a piece of wood and when he was trying to take the piece of wood away from the suspect, the suspect lost balance and fell to the ground.

After spending two days in the hospital with blood transfusions and dozens of stitches, she is back at home recovering physically and mentally.

The victim said she will not be returning to the home health aide job she had for the last decade.

“This is a hard job. Nobody wants to do this job,” she said.

The man is expected to be arraigned on assault and battery charges once he is released from the hospital
