A social enterprise charity in West Lothian has received a funding boost from a foundation set up a decade ago by a housebuilder.
The Persimmon Foundation has donated £15,000 to The Larder, an inspiring charity based in Livingston that’s dedicated to addressing food insecurity and empowering individuals through training and support.
The Larder delivers a range of impactful initiatives that tackle food insecurity while fostering long-term resilience and self-sufficiency. Their work includes delivering over 200,000 ready meals to those in need and providing training on employability, life skills, health, and wellbeing.
Their innovative Catalyst Kitchen projects include meal deliveries, dining events, and cook-and-dine classes, which promote community cohesion and meaningful support.
The donation from the Persimmon Foundation will help The Larder expand its programmes, enabling more young people to gain valuable qualifications, work experience, and essential life skills.
Angela Moohan, CEO of The Larder, expressed her gratitude, saying: “The Persimmon Foundation’s donation will strengthen The Larder’s ability to serve the West Lothian community and advance its mission of tackling food poverty and creating pathways to personal and professional growth.”
Since being established in 2015, the Persimmon Foundation has focused on promoting urban regeneration, advancing health and education, and relieving poverty and disadvantage.
Over the past three years alone, the foundation has donated around £1.5 million to more than 1,400 organisations across the UK, reflecting its commitment to supporting communities where the Persimmon Group develops.
Anthony Vigor, Chairman of the Persimmon Foundation, said: “We are thrilled to support The Larder and the vital work they do in addressing food insecurity and empowering individuals in West Lothian.
“This donation reflects our ongoing commitment to support charities that have such a positive impact in the communities they serve.”
