South Ayrshire Council is continuing its campaign to get children and young people to appreciate all that school has to offer.
The Every Learner, Every Day initiative, which was launched in August last year, has been promoted by schools across South Ayrshire, with pupils appearing in online videos and adverts.
The campaign is already helping to make a difference. Overall school attendance (primary and secondary) in 2023-24 was 90 per cent. This has increased to 92 per cent in the 2024-25 session.
Hallie who attends Kincaidston Primary School said: “I love going to school as I like to learn new things. I enjoy group work with my friends, and we get to play together too. We’re learning Gaelic at the moment which I really like, and PE is always fun.”
Jay from Marr College said: “School is helping me become more confident. Everyone is different, and at school you learn how to interact with different people in different ways. You also learn how to respect the views of others and the dangers of things like drugs and alcohol.”
Councillor William Grant, Education Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “I’m glad the Every Learner, Every Day campaign is helping to make a difference. I am particularly pleased with the increased attendance in our secondary schools.
“The start of the year is the perfect time to make new commitments, so we’re highlighting the importance of school to young people as well as parents and carers. I’m hopeful that attendance figures will continue to rise throughout 2025.”
