Tottenham have shown their faith in Ange Postecoglou despite the club plummeting down the Premier League table.
The Australian left Celtic in 2023 after a trophy-laden spell in the Scottish Premiership back but has failed to bring the same success to Spurs. Defeat to relegation-threatened Leicester City was seen by many pundits as the final straw for Postecoglou as his injury-ravaged Tottenham squad slumped to a 2-1 defeat that lifted the Foxes out of the relegation zone.
It leaves Spurs just eight points above the drop and chairman Daniel Levy has made the decision to make a change in the dugout. More positively, Tottenham are in the EFL Cup semi-final and hold a 1-0 aggregate lead over Liverpool going into the second leg at Anfield – while they are also all guaranteed a top eight finish in the Europa League and progress to the last 16.
But as it stands, Postecoglou is set to keep his job. Football London report that that Spurs are sticking with Postecoglou “amid the injury crisis his squad is engulfed in” and will attempt to back the boss with one new recruit before the January window closes. It comes after the boss warned Spurs power-brokers they were “playing with fire” if they didn’t dip into the market.
Tottenham will round off their league phase campaign on Thursday against Swedish minnows Elfsborg. They will then attempt to kickstart their league campaign on Sunday against Brentford.
