Celtic are reportedly among a host of clubs showing interest in Brighton’s Evan Ferguson this month as they eye a replacement for Kyogo.

But a potential loan offer may already have an answer from the Seagulls after boss Fabian Hurzeler made his plans for the 20-year-old clear. The Amex Stadium exit door appears to be open for the Ireland international who has been used sparingly since the arrival of the German in the summer – having failed to make an appearance for Brighton in over a month when he was granted a five-minute cameo against West Ham.

The Daily Mail report Celtic have joined the likes of Everton, Fulham, West Ham who are “seeking” a loan move for Ferguson. Brendan Rodgers is in need of firepower with Kyogo Furuhashi on the brink of a move to Stade Rennes – leaving Adam Idah and Johnny Kenny as the two first-team options to lead the line for the Scottish Premiership leaders.

But the boss has already indicated that a loan move to a fellow Premier League side would be his preference. Speaking earlier this month, Hurzeler said: “This decision should be what is best for the player and for the club. We went Buonanotte, for example, to Leicester. We know that the Premier League is a very good league to improve, because it’s tough, it’s intense, especially for young players. It’s the perfect environment to adapt.

“In the end, they want to play for Brighton and we want them to play for Brighton. So, when they improve in the environment of the league where we are also playing, it’s always very helpful. So, that’s why I am not thinking about making the other teams better, it’s more about what is best for the player.”

However, he did not close the door completely on a move outside of England’s top flight last weekend, admitting there would be talks with the player on where he wants to go: “It’s very important that we talk about these things internally, that we know the player’s view.”

Ferguson is currently recovering from an injury and speaking after his side’s defeat to Everton on Saturday, Hurzeler said: “He’s injured. I can’t say anything about that at the moment. When I see him he’s in good spirit, but, of course, injuries don’t help your mood and your shape, so not only physically or mentally it’s a hard time for him, but I’m sure he’ll get through it.”

The Hoops could face competition from Arsenal, who have been linked given Mikel Arteta’s pressing need for a striker this window. Real Bets are also thought to be interested. The Spanish outfit have signed Anthony on loan from Manchester Utd but are still seeking reinforcements up front.
