AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced details Monday about his 2025 State of the State address.
This year’s speech will take place at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, and will be broadcast across the state.
During the address, Abbott will focus on his goals for the 89th Texas Legislature, introducing emergency items that can be passed within the first two months of the session. Lawmakers can only pass legislation on emergency items within the first 60 days of a regular session, according to the Texas Constitution.
“Texas is the blueprint for America’s future,” Abbott said in a press release on Monday. “From becoming the eighth largest economy in the world to safeguarding the freedoms that make Texas great, we are working tirelessly to accomplish what seems impossible. Working together, we will continue to build a strong Texas for generations.”
In his 2023 State of the State address, the governor highlight several priorities for the 88th legislative session, including school safety, improving security at the U.S.-Mexico border, addressing concerns about fentanyl and more.
The 89th Texas Legislature began Jan. 14 and will continue through June 2.
