Police officers trying to identify a man found in a Blantyre street discovered he was carrying a knife.
Charles McClinton was in a “heavily intoxicated” state and concerns had been raised for his welfare.
McClinton,50, of Poplar Place, Blantyre, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.
He admitted carrying a knife without reasonable excuse in St Andrews Court on May 9 last year.
An allegation that he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner after being taken to Hairmyres Hospital was dropped.
The court heard police responded to a call around 8am.
Aga Mathieson, prosecuting, said: “Officers arrived to check on his welfare. He was heavily intoxicated and they were unable to have a conversation with him.
“They searched him for any form of identification and recovered the sleeve for a knife in his hooded jumper. A knife was lying underneath him.
“The officers also found a bank card with the accused’s name on it.”
McClinton admitted previous convictions but defence lawyer Laura Kiernan said he’d stayed out of trouble for five years before this incident.
She added: “He has a heart condition that affects his mobility.
“I would ask that the court obtains background reports to see if there is an alternative to custody.”
Sheriff John Hamilton deferred sentence until March for reports and allowed McClinton to remain on bail.
