Post Office services in Wishaw will be cut next month after the closure of a branch in Pather.

It was confirmed that the branch in Rannoch Drive will close on Friday, February 21, following the resignation of the postmaster.

In a letter to customers, Post Office Area Change Manager Scott Hamilton said: “Regrettably, following the resignation of the postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use, the branch will be closing on Friday, February 21.

“I would like to assure you that we are currently investigating the options available which will enable us to reinstate a Post Office service to the local community.

“In exploring this, it is important that any future service is sustainable for the person operating the service, and for Post Office Limited.

“Future provision will reflect customer numbers and usage and we may take the opportunity to establish an alternative type of service.

“This may be a local style branch which runs alongside an established retail shop in newly refurbished premises and creates a more modern and convenient experience for customers.

“We will display posters in the branch to inform customers. We apologise for the inconvenience the closure may cause. We hope that our customers will continue to use Post Office services.”

The closure comes less than a fortnight after the Post Office confirmed that a new branch was to open in nearby Motherwell.

The Post Office said that it hoped the new branch in Motherwell will be able to open in Spring although no further information was communicated at this point on the location and address of the replacement Motherwell service.
