BECKLEY, W. Va. -Last year, the Raleigh County Community Action Association, who operate Pine Haven, the largest homeless shelter in southern West Virginia, learned of budget cuts that diminished nearly three-quarters of their budget. Those budget cuts brought their budget for 2025 down from $490,000 to just $125,000.

A GoFundMe campaign has been circulating online that intends to support their emergency shelter. However, in a press release, the Raleigh County Community Action Association says they did not “initiate, organize, or endorse” that GoFundMe.

They’re instead encouraging those interested in donating to verify the source of fundraising campaigns and “strongly recommend” people donate to “officially recognized organizations and campaigns that are transparent in their operations.” They also say you can find out directly how you can help by going to their website or by calling 304-252-6396.

We did reach out to the City of Beckley who tell us that the County and the City are working to avoid the shelter potentially closing on February 28th. We’ll continue to follow this story.
