Relay for Life Ayrshire will return for its second year, following the success of last year’s event, in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The 24-hour walking challenge will take place once again at Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock on Saturday, August 16 from 10am and will finish the next morning on Sunday, August 17.
Last year Relay For Life Ayrshire raised an incredible £85,322.31 for Cancer Research UK with all of this money going to the CRUK Scotland Institute, formerly known as The Beatson.
Darren Thomson, Relay for Life Ayrshire committee member, said: “The Relay For Life Ayrshire committee are currently working on making this event even bigger and better than it was last year.
“Anyone who is looking to help raise some money for Cancer Research UK, fancy’s a new challenge or even just a great day out, get signed up with your team and come join us on August 16 at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock for what is going to be another awesome event!”
Committee members are looking for teams of friends, family, work colleagues to carry out fundraising leading up to the event itself.
Last year, participants had bake sales, raffles, and took on various challenges like climbing a mountain and cycling various distances.
On August 16, teams will come together for a big 24-hour party, to celebrate their fundraising efforts.
Each team will take turns between themselves to walk laps at the Athletic Arena for 24 hours, this symbolizes that cancer doesn’t sleep so neither will the participants in the fight to beat it.
On the day there will be a survivor’s lunch where cancer survivors can come along with family, enjoy a complimentary meal, chat and share stories.
Throughout the event there will be live music, games, face painting and other entertainment for the kids.
In the evening, Candle of Hope Ceremony will take place, where teams will come together for a moment of quiet remembrance, reflection, and celebration.
Darren added: “Anyone can come along on the day with friends and family to enjoy the event.”
