Roman Kemp shared an update about his family as he admitted he recently “upset” his mum, Shirlie, with a heartbreaking confession about his family.
The One Show star is the son of Spandau Ballet bassist and former EastEnders star Martin Kemp and 80s popstar Shirlie and often gives fans a sneak peek into their lives off screen.
Speaking to the Guardian recently, he admitted he’d told his mum that he didn’t feel like he “fitted” in with their family. Talking about how his dad and sister enjoy a singalong at the piano, he said it’s “not really me”.
He went on: “I really upset my mum recently, because I said that sometimes I feel like I don’t fit in with our family.
“I go back home and my dad will be on the piano, my sister will be singing, my mum’s taking videos and pictures. And I just want to be on my own. I’m not… embarrassed by it, but that form of extroversion is not really me.”
In November, Roman revealed to fans that he’d stopped taking antidepressants after more than 10 years.
He took to Instagram to share that they were now “out” of his system and that he’d been taking the medication since he was 15.
Roman also said he was “excited” to find out what the “emotional side of me is really like”. The star has battled depression for more than a decade according to reports and previously told Steph’s Packed Lunch that he’d battled “suicidal thoughts”.
The former Capital Breakfast radio star added on Instagram: “I’m neither for or against taking anti-depressants, I’m about what is right for YOU and if it helps you then go for it.”
