A number of schools across Dumfries and Galloway are closed today due to a lack of power.

The council took the decision to close all schools on Friday due to Storm Eowyn bringing gale force winds to the region.

Most reopened this morning, however damage caused by winds that topped 90mph means some remain closed.

Colvend, Cummertrees, Johnstonebridge, Kirkgunzeon and Lochrutton Primaries are all shut as they have no power.

Lockerbie Primary, Lockerbie Academy and the nursery are all shut too.

Caerlaverock Primary has had to close as it has no electricity, while Hardgate Primary is shut due to an issue with the alarm.

With thousands of homes being without power over the weekend, a number of schools announced Monday would be a non-uniform day.

Dumfries and Galloway Council has announced all its buildings are safe to reopen, with nearly all A and B class roads back open.

The only exception is the B6318 Langholm to Canonbie.
