Paolo Di Canio insists Scotland star Scott McTominay has been turned into an ‘absolutely devastating’ player by Napoli boss Antonio Conte.

The former Manchester United ace’s performances have helped Napoli move to the top of Serie A and he has been widely praised for his displays. And Di Canio – who thrilled during his year at Parkhead in season 1996/97 and is now an Italian TV pundit – reckons Conte has transformed the Scotland ace. He pointed out: “Antonio Conte wanted Scott McTominay to play as a second striker – that’s what he signed him for originally,

“But when he played him in midfield, he was incredible. He goes through players like a knife through butter. In Italy, he is absolutely devastating in that position. Conte has completely transformed him. He signed a player I would call mechanical at Manchester United and modernised him. I watch him in games and can’t believe what he’s done.”

And McTominay broke a new record in Napoli’s weekend win over Juventus too. He covered 7.84 miles during the game – the most of any Napoli player in Serie A this season.
