Wynne Evans has taken a break from his BBC Wales radio show following his apology for making an “inappropriate and unacceptable” comment during the Strictly Come Dancing live tour launch.
The well-known opera singer is “taking some time off from his show” the station confirmed.
Whilst he recovers, comedian Robin Windsor, who frequently covers for Evans, stepped in to present Monday’s morning show after Evans’ Glasgow performance the previous night.
The incident leading to Evans’ absence follows an ankle injury which saw him miss the Saturday dance performance in Glasgow, having just performed there on Sunday.
The Mail on Sunday revealed that Evans was caught on video uttering the remark to a woman at the event that commenced on January 16, resulting in a caution from the tour producers, reports Wales Online.
Evans expressed regret, stating: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable for which I sincerely apologise.”
Strictly live tour and BBC Studios representatives asserted their position: “We were not previously aware of the remark and did not receive any complaints. We have made it very clear to Wynne that we do not tolerate such behaviour on the tour.”
On social media, Evans updated his followers on his condition, showing images of his injured ankle on Instagram and in a video shared on Saturday evening saying: “Ankle’s getting a bit better, it was great to be able to sing in Glasgow tonight, even if I couldn’t dance, hopefully back tomorrow.
“But watch this space, I’ll let you know in the morning. See how the swelling goes down, and all that kind of stuff, thanks for all the lovely messages, amazing.”
He returned to dazzle spectators with his dance moves in both the matinee and evening show in Glasgow on Sunday.
Amidst Storm Eowyn’s battering of Glasgow, which urged locals to stay indoors, Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood announced the cancellation and rescheduling of Friday’s live performance of the popular dance extravaganza for Sunday evening.
The tour is set to wow audiences next at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by performances at Leeds’ First Direct Arena on Thursday and Friday.
A spokesperson for BBC Wales confirmed: “Wynne is taking some time off from his show on Radio Wales. Robin Morgan will be stepping in to host during his absence.”
In October, Evans and Jones were compelled to issue apologies for a “joke” that involved her moving Evans’ hand away from her waist during the BBC show.
There was also a moment when Jones seemed reluctant to high-five her celebrity dance partner, which they later explained as “a running joke”.
Following contestant complaints, the BBC initiated a review last year which resulted in the introduction of chaperones during Strictly rehearsals.
Additionally, Evans graced the stage in the 25th anniversary production of The Phantom Of The Opera and triumphed as the winner of 2023’s Celebrity MasterChef.
