A warning has been issued to anyone cooking a specific type of meat in their air fryers as it could pose a risk.

Air fryers have become a staple in many UK households due to their ability to cook meals quicker and healthier than a conventional oven. And there’s been a trend towards cooking a full roast dinner in them.

But, experts have now warned people against cooking meat on the bone, including a whole chicken in their air fryers. The popular gadgets are built with a cooking chamber, a heating element and a fan.

In the device the fan circulates hots air around the cooking chamber and the heating element generates the heat. This means hot air reaches all sides of the food which in turn ensures your food is cooked thoroughly and evenly.

But this method is not designed to roast chicken, prompting experts to advise cooks to return them to the over, reports the Express.

According to Southern Living, large bone-in meats are better off being roasted in a traditional way as it can help cook more evenly than in an air fryer.

Air fryers aren’t designed to cook large cuts of meat, so they should always be cooked in the oven.

Better Homes & Gardens wrote: “The air fryer won’t evenly cook the meat, and you may be left with overcooked or raw portions when it looks like it’s done.”

However, that doesn’t mean you can’t cook smaller portions of meat in the air fryer. The likes of chicken wings, fried chicken, and bacon are all suitable to be put in the air fryer.

When it comes to cooking steak, you’ll be limited in size away.

Bone-in cuts tend to have more flavour and are harder to overcook, but most likely won’t fit in the air fryer basket.

You’re also limited by temperature. According to All Recipes, most air fryers reach a maximum temperature of around 230℃, which is a relatively low temperature to cook steak at.
