Airdrie players boss Rhys McCabe still wants to do more transfer business in the January transfer window, but admits he knows his struggling side aren’t the most attractive proposition right now.

McCabe has strengthened his squad this month with the arrival of former Morton defender Lewis Strapp and teenage striker Ricco Diack on loan from Partick Thistle.

He would like to add more new recruits but with the Diamonds 10 points adrift of Dunfermline at the foot of the table, he admits he is realistic about his chances of luring certain players to New Broomfield for a relegation dogfight.

Asked if he would be bringing in any more new signings, McCabe told Lanarkshire Live Sport : “It is difficult. January is a window where if the right player comes up, that’s great, but you tend to find that a lot of clubs are looking at the same player.

Lewis Strapp is among Airdrie’s recent January signings

“We know in terms of where we are as a club, we are not the most attractive in terms of league position, as well as financially.

“Players cost a lot of money in January. It’s usually a goalscorer or some kind of emergency signing.

“If we can get somebody in who we feel can help the boys, we are always open to that and actively looking, but we have done some business early. We’ve managed to get Lewis Strapp in the door and Ricco Diack.

“Sometimes if you bring in a lot of new players, you give yourself a headache with a squad of 23 or 24. Not everybody can play and we have a group in there all fighting for the cause, so it is important we don’t disrupt that too much.

“But there’s certain positions I would like to strengthen in and if they come, that’s great, but if they don’t, then so be it.”
