A huge inflatable ‘duck’ has exploded in Glasgow, leaving a trail of polystyrene balls strewn across the streets.
Four days after Storm Eowyn caused significant damage in Scotland, locals in Dennistoun were startled to find what looked like ‘snow’ covering parts of their gardens.
On closer inspection, it turned out to be small polystyrene balls, which had come from the now-deflated Connies Big Duck Bathroom’s giant inflatable duck.
Known for their unique and often humorous advertising campaigns – featuring everything from men in wigs on toilets to giant Easter bunnies – the company is well-known in the East End of the city.
However, despite the light-hearted intention, some locals were left furious after the large duck fell victim to the storm.
One resident wrote: “This stuff is everywhere. Hopefully they take some accountability and clear the mess.”
Another added: “Had a walk down the parade and in the park earlier and everything is covered. I watched birds eat them. This is unacceptable.”
A third chimed: “Ah so that’s why it looks like it’s snowing in Dennistoun. Can’t help but feel bad for the wee birds who will be eating it”
And a fourth wrote: “My thoughts exactly. Environmental disaster.”
However, despite locals fears, Cornelious Kelly, known as Connie, took to social media to reassure the public. He said: “This is Connie, the owner of Big Duck Bathrooms, just to reassure you all that there is nothing wrong with the wildlife in the park.
“There is no balls floating about the water and if there is, they will dissolve in time because they are biodegradable.”
He continued: “They’re non-toxic and will not harm any wildlife if eaten. They will simply pass through their digstive system. It’s a pity it happened, but there was a hurricane.
“To anyone who has been concerned, there’s nothing to be concerned about. Just be patient and give us a few days and we’ll get the place cleaned up.”
