Kate Middleton is reported to be feeling ‘vindicated’ in the wake of last weekend’s controversial Vanity Fair article on Harry and Meghan.
The glossy US publication marked five years since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved stateside with a scathing article about the pair. Claims running throughout the piece included those made by former staff members who slammed Meghan as “really really awful” to work for, and those who said she was a ‘mean girl’.
The duke and duchess were forced to bat off allegations that Meghan had “bullied” palace staff when the couple were still working royals over here in the UK, before their move to California in 2020.
Future queen Kate, known for her tumultuous relationship with the pair since bombshell claims made in Harry’s 2021 memoir Spare and Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, was accused of bullying the former Suits actress herself while they were still working royals, and is reported to now be feeling vindicated since the Vanity Fair article.
The source told Closer: “Of course, everyone in the Palace has been talking about Meghan and Harry after they received such a damaging profile in Vanity Fair – which is shocking all round.
“Kate has had the toughest year of her life, which has put everything into perspective. The truth is she’s done with the drama with Harry and Meghan and is determined to go about her life without being involved.
“But does she feel vindicated? Absolutely!”
The Vanity Fair piece – entitled ‘Inside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Big Business Ambitions, 5 Years After Their Royal Exit’ – featured a raft of claims from former employees of Harry, 40, and Meghan, 43.
Some claimed they had been forced to sign an ‘NDA’ (Non-Disclosure Agreement), which means they are not allowed to talk about the couple, and the reasons for the sometimes sudden departures of employees.
One staff member who was thought to have been a worker on Meghan’s Spotify podcast Archetypes described working as part of Meghan’s inner circle as ‘very painful’.
‘[It was] really, really, really awful. Very painful. Because she’s constantly playing checkers – I’m not even going to say chess – but she’s just very aware of where everybody is on her board,’ they said.
‘And when you are not in, you are to be thrown to the wolves at any given moment… It’s talking behind your back. It’s gnawing at your sense of self. Really, like, Mean Girls teenager.’
In Harry and Meghan’s 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, they made a raft of allegations about the Royal Family, including that Kate had made the former Suits actress cry over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress, just four days before Meghan and Harry’s wedding in 2018.
