(CNN) – On Monday, President Donald Trump signed new executive orders to reshape the military.
One directive will ban transgender service members.
Trump banned transgender people from serving in the military when he was president in 2017, but Joe Biden repealed the ban in 2021.
Trump also signed an order to reinstate and give back pay to service members who were discharged for refusing the COVID-19 vaccine.
Finally, Monday’s executive orders will get rid of the military’s diversity, equity, and inclusion [DEI] programs.
All this comes after Trump’s nominee for defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, was sworn in Saturday.
Hegseth has long said he plans to make major cultural changes to the military, including ending DEI and removing what he calls “woke” service members.
