Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans has reportedly split from his girlfriend following a series of offensive remarks.
The 53-year-old Welsh opera singer, known for his role in the GoCompare adverts, began dating Liz Brookers, 50, early last year.
However, after a number of sexual remarks and scandals, it is reported that the couple have parted ways.
“Although she loyally stood by him in public, Liz was humiliated by what happened when he was on Strictly,” an insider revealed, reports the Mirror.
After his marriage to Tanwen, the mother of his two children, ended in 2016, Evans found love again with events manager Liz Brookes, who was often seen supporting him during his appearances on Strictly.
However, recent controversy surrounding Evans has put him in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
He came under fire after making a highly inappropriate comment about tour host Janette Manrara during the launch in Birmingham. He later issued a heartfelt apology, but it seems this was the final straw for his relationship.
When Manrara approached the group, Evans sang out: “Go Compare,” before adding: “Not too close to Jamie [Borthwick].”
He then used the offensive term “spit roast” in reference to a crude sexual act. In a statement to the Mirror, he said: “My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise.”
Earlier this evening, Wynne acknowledged the situation and concurred with the BBC’s decision to “take some time out” from his radio programme and the Strictly Come Dancing live tour to focus on his wellbeing.
In a statement, he expressed: “I’ve agreed with the BBC that I’ll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.”
He continued: “I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won’t get to see at the remaining performances and I’m grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me.”
