Ayrshire Roads Alliance have moved to repair a pothole which has damaged several cars.
At least five cars were left by the roadside on the A79 at the Monkton roundabout near Prestwick Airport on Monday night, January 27, as drivers failed in their efforts to avoid the pothole.
Reports have been made of at least 11 cars damaged by the pothole since temporary repairs were carried out by Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) on Thursday, January 23.
Tyre fitters, including R&D Tyres, attended the stricken cars to allow motorists to get home safely.
R&D Tyres said on Facebook: “And so the work continues on tonight, just as you come out past Prestwick Airport on A79 heading for Monkton Roundabout.
“Five cars all hit the same pothole and were stranded. Lewis Irwin Tyres has done four cars as well at the same area.
“All sorted and relieved folk on the way home. No bother to myself, tyres on and on their way.
“Thanks to all of you for the business tonight. Glad I helped you all out and got you all home safe and sound.”
Permanent repairs to the road began on Monday night, January 27 following Storm Éowyn and ARA have confirmed work to repair the pothole will be completed overnight tonight (Wednesday, January 29).
An ARA spokesperson said: “The Ayrshire Roads Alliance carried out temporary repairs on the A79 on Thursday, January 23, with full repairs scheduled to commence on Monday, January 27 for three nights from 8pm to 5am.
