AUSTIN, Texas — Austin ISD is looking into how a substitute bus driver ended up at the wrong school on Tuesday morning.

The principal of Campbell Elementary School sent a letter to families saying the driver picked up children on Tuesday morning and brought them to the right school, but did not let them off the bus.

The driver did not know where to drop the kids off at Campbell Elementary, so he took them to Winn Montessori, another Austin ISD school about 4 miles away.

Principal Keith Moore said his school contacted Austin ISD dispatch, who followed the bus to the other school. The principal also went to Winn Montessori.

While the kids were waiting on the bus, a parent kicked the bus door open, shattering glass.

Eleven parents picked up their children, and 21 other children were taken to their school.

Austin ISD’s transportation supervisors are working to figure out what caused the issue.
