Celtic and Aston Villa fans have clashed in Birmingham with police trying to disperse groups as fireworks and flares were thrown.
The Scottish and English clubs are meeting for the first time to play in the Champions League tonight.
Footage, from the X account Hooligans.cz Official, has been shared of Celtic fans arriving at a train station near Villa Park, where Villa fans were waiting to meet the Celtic supporters with Union Jack banners and red flares. Green fireworks can be seen heading in the direction of Villa fans.
Images were also widely shared on social media of banners hanging over a motorway bridge as Celtic fans made their way to the Midlands.
Hooligans.cz shared photos of a derogatory term sprayed on the banners, telling them to “Get out of Brum.” It also said “F*** the Pope and the IRA. AVFC our city.”
A later image showed Celtic fans had covered up the banner with a green and white flag.
It comes as West Midlands Police brought in road closures around Villa Park amid an “elevated risk” with letters sent to local residents around the stadium.
Birmingham Live reports that the letters read: “We are writing to inform you about changes to the road closure arrangements for the upcoming fixture against Celtic. These changes are part of our existing counter-terrorism strategy and have been carefully planned in consultation with governing bodies to ensure the safety and security of all attendees and residents.”
At the time of writing, Villa and Celtic are drawing 2-2.
