Extra bin collections will take place in Dumfries and Galloway after Friday’s rounds were cancelled due to Storm Eowyn.

The council took the decision to cancel the usual bin routes after the Met Office issued a red weather warning.

And it has now announced that bin workers will put in extra shifts over the weekend to make up for the lost rounds.

Anyone affected should put the bin that was due to be emptied on January 24 out before 6.30am on Saturday, February 1. It will be emptied by the end of play on Sunday.

People whose general waste bin wasn’t emptied can put out two bags of side waste, while any excess food waste should go in the normal bin.

A council spokesman said: “If you have a large amount of food waste that will not fit in your food waste bin, grey-lidded bin or the two permitted bags of side waste, please email [email protected] with your address and contact details and our team will be able to discuss your options with you.

“You can also take excess waste to your local recycling centre by booking a slot on our website.”

Normal bin schedules will not be affected by the extra round.
